Practice Makes Everything Possible
(Excerpts from the satsanga of Pujya Bapuji)
Vasishthaji, the Guru of Lord Rama, said, “O Ramaji! Is there any thing or state that can’t be
achieved through practice? Ramaji! If only one persists and doesn’t give up losing heart midway,
one definitely achieves his goal.”
Practice makes everything possible. Even Self-knowledge can be attained through practice. ‘I am beaten, I am worried, I am in trouble’ –if you practise brooding over such problems, you
certainly will create problems for yourself. Howsoever great your woes, do not brood over
them. If a speeding car splashes muddy water on you and some of it even enters your mouth,
don’t grumble; rather think positively ‘So many times have I partaken of the Lord’s
charanāmrita; today, I got to taste the charanāmrita of a car!’ When the dirty water has already
entered your mouth, there is no use whining. Be always of good cheer, this is the art of living.
If you continue making persistent efforts without getting tired midway and retracing your steps,
then you will certainly attain your goal. With determined practice you can materialise even nonexistent objects.
There is a detailed account in the ‘Sri Yoga Vasishtha Maharamayana’ about a great ascetic who
desired to become Lord Brahma, the Creator, and became so through determined yogic
practices. But then, how can the Creation have another Creator, i.e. another Lord Brahma? So
profound and intense was his ascetic practice that he created another universe with another
sun; thus becoming another Lord Brahma for his own creation!
The jivātman has miraculous power. He can attain just anything he wants, become as great as
he dreams to be through untiring efforts. With self-effort and relentless perseverance one can
surely attain anything and everything.
‘Whenever there is a true soul to soul affection, union will of a surety follow.’
Maa Parvati got determined to have Lord Shiva as her consort and she succeeded too. Dhruva
aspired for darshana of Lord Vishnu and he finally had it. Shabari wanted to have darshana of
Lord Rama and the Lord came in person to meet her. Dhanna’s persistent entreaties made Lord
Krishna manifest Himself from a stone. Rami Ramdasa, the 8 year old brother of Samartha
Ramadasa, wanted to make Hanumanaji manifest himself in an idol and he succeeded in doing
so, whereupon he even had a talk with Hanumanji and received his blessings as well. Thus he
became famous at the tender age of 8 years.
